This season we find ourselves entered into our first cup competition which is to be played Champion League style!! We find ourselves in a group of 4 with some very good teams and the top 2 teams in the group go through to the next round. So, a very wet and windy Saturday morning saw an additional face to our line up of George Downs. The game commenced and it was evident straight away that Whyteleafe were a very good team with slick passes and great movement off of the ball. However, some great tackling and some impressive saves kept them at bay for the first 15 minutes and then they scored 2 very good goals. Chins up, we battled for a corner which was delivered in and Sam Tidbury headed a goal to see us go in at half time 1 down. There was some really good play in the first half from all the Youth players but with the wind a rain in our faces for the second half it was a struggle out there and we quickly found ourselves down by another goal. A free kick awarded to us just inside of their half saw Oliver Baldwin step up and hit a beauty to take the score to within one. Could we do the unthinkable and stage a great comeback and huge upset?????? Sadly not, the team battled incredibly hard in some awful conditions and were just outplayed by the better team. Every player gave it their all and I couldn't be prouder. Well done!!!
