Preview:
Ewell’s battling display against Old Wimbledonians gave them hope ahead of their journey to Oxted, although they were certainly hoping for a much improved display after their woeful 2016 pre-Christmas Social performance.
The Match:
18
NEAR MISS
An early siege on Ewell’s goal is repelled by a strong Ransom fist, as the keeper intervenes following a dangerous set piece opportunity for the hosts.
23
CHANCE
Williams-Crowe’s skill and persistence enables him to advance into a dangerous area before winning a corner, as Ewell mount their first attack of note.
28
NEAR MISS
A cynical Kingshott foul is adjudged to have occurred just outside of the area and the resulting free-kick fails to text Ransom.
35

Ransom turns a driven shot away and manages to avoid palming the rebound into the on-running striker’s path.
HALF TIME – Oxted & District 0 - AFC Ewell 0
58
NEAR MISS
A heart in mouth moment for Ewell as Kingshott’s undercooked back pass is seized upon, and despite rounding Ransom the home side are unable to capitalise on a rare defensive error.
62
CHANCE
Kingshott musters Ewell’s first effort on target but his effort from the edge of the box lacks the necessary venom to pose any real threat.
68
NEAR MISS
Another Oxted freekick in a dangerous area. This time Ransom elects for a safety first approach as he tips the ensuing effort over the bar.
80
CHANCE
Patient build up down the right results in Webster’s inviting and inch perfect cross for Keogh. Having caused problems for the hosts with his physicality and willing running, the big man’s deft glance drifts agonisingly wide of the far post.
84
CHANCE
Despite being forced into a rare 90 minute outing, fortunately Cooper’s hamstrings last the course as he pulls off an outstanding last ditch tackle when the hosts looked set to break the visitors’ staunch resistance.
FULL TIME – Oxted & District 0 - AFC Ewell 0
The verdict:
A hard-fought point in spite of a host of absent regulars and their unenviable record against their hosts meant that Ewell walked off the pitched feeling understandably proud of their performance. In avoiding defeat for a third successive week, Ewell have also shipped one goal on the way to banking 5 points in their efforts to rise up the league standings.
