Preview:
Ewell's final league action of 2017 saw them travel to old adversaries Raynes Park Vale, and they hoped to sign off with a win following an uncharacteristically disappointing calendar year.
The Match:
10
CHANCE
Inglis is picked out at the near post but his effort is blocked and the Ewell defender injures himself in the process.
24
GOAL
Tanous. Assist: Harley. Tanous jinks back onto his right foot and whips in a dangerous looking ball which evades the goalkeeper and finds the far corner.
33
GOAL
Despite clearing the initial danger, a on-rushing player volleys home from the edge of the box to level proceedings.
36
CHANCE
The dangerous Allen is slipped in but his heavy touch forces him wide and narrows the angle for the ensuing attempt, which is saved.
38
GOAL
Harley. Assist: Cooper. Harley drifts inside from the right flank and is picked out by Cooper’s pinpoint pass. The former controls immaculately and slides the ball into the net to restore Ewell’s advantage.
HALF TIME – Raynes Park Vale Reserves 1 - AFC Ewell 2
59
GOAL
Some sloppy Ewell defending sees them surrender a corner in cheap circumstances. The resulting wind-assisted corner evades the efforts of Ransom and the man stationed at the pack post to restore parity.
70
GOAL
In a near repeat of the equaliser, the hosts make their height advantage count and another corner which is swirling towards goal is nodded in on the line.
FULL TIME – Raynes Park Vale Reserves 3 - AFC Ewell 2
The verdict:
Lady luck once again shunned Ewell as they sought to get their season back on track. Having looked relatively comfortable in open play, Ewell were undone by two second half set pieces and, fighting against the driving wind, were unable to produce enough moments of quality in attacking positions.
