46
GOAL
Dunseath. Assist: Tanous. As direct as they come, Chipperton launches the ball into the corner from Ewell’s kick off and Tanous strides into the box and squares for Dunseath to bundle home.
50
GOAL
Williams-Crowe. Assist: Tanous. Smash and grab springs to mind as Ewell launch another devastating counter. Williams-Crowe capitalises on some defensive uncertainty and is the beneficiary of a mix up between the goalkeeper and defender.
65
BOOKING
Hodge. For (allegedly) the first time in his career Hodge earns a caution for a cynical foul as Ewell continue to frustrate their opponents.
70
CHANCE
Tanous clears the ball upfield following a Hanworth attack, enabling Victor to scamper towards goal. Unfortunately for Ewell, his pockets are picked just as he attempts to pull the trigger.
80
GOAL
Tanous. Assist: Hodge. Tanous’ industry is rewarded as he is handed a goal on a plate by Hodge’s persistence after the latter dispossesses and then evades a Hanworth defender before unselfishly crossing for the former.
82
BOOKING
Webster. An innocuous looking barge earns Webster a yellow card.
86
NEAR MISS
Despite enjoying a quieter afternoon than he perhaps expected, Ransom remains alert and pulls off a tremendous double save. He manages to block Crawford’s clearance that is fired towards goal before pawing away the subsequent header to preserve Ewell’s hopes of keeping a clean sheet.
FULL TIME – AFC Ewell 3 vs Hanworth Sports 0
The verdict:
Three goals, a clean sheet and progression to Round 3 of the County Cup undoubtedly surpassed Ewell’s pre-game expectations, although this does not mean they were not good value for their win. Resolute defending and harrying of the opposition frustrated the opposition, but Ewell also showed a ruthless streak in the second half and their killer instinct helped to an excellent victory.
