Preview:
Ewell were set to host NPL for the third time this season, having endured a frustrating draw in the opening game of the season but also triumphing 6-0 in the League Cup. A win today would secure a place in the last 4 of the Geoff Ellis Shield.

Hitch dances into a promising position on the edge of the box but is eventually crowded out before he can unleash a shot.

GOAL
Keogh. Assist: Hitch. In an effort reminiscent of his strike a fortnight earlier against Raynes Park Vale, Keogh produces a composed finish after Hitch had slipped him in.

Clancy. Assist: Stevens. Ewell double their lead as Clancy’s tenacity sees him shrug off an opponent in a 50-50 dual and then fire the ball beyond the keeper, with Stevens supplying the ammunition on this occasion.
85
CHANCE
Hitch is unfortunate to see his well-place effort rebound off the post after wriggling free of his marker.
89
NEAR MISS
A timely intervention by A. Williams ensures that the hosts’ clean sheet remains intact.

The verdict:
Whilst the performance on the day was always going to be less important than the result, Ewell made hard work of this quarter final tie. Perhaps they were somewhat fortunate to remain on level terms at the break, although a more commanding second half performance saw them take control of the game and ultimately avoid further cup heartbreak.
