Saturday First Team v Worcester Park 'A'

Will Chipperton10 Oct 2015 - 14:00

Match report

Preview:

Ewell went into this afternoon’s fixture with the unwanted record of having not yet beat their opponents in their 3 previous clashes. The three defeats were closely contested and Ewell were edged out by a solitary goal on each occasion, so they were determined to put an end to that.

The Match:

14

CHANCE

Ewell are awarded a penalty after Harley is scythed down in the box. Cooper steps up but his effort is saved by the home team’s keeper.

20

GOAL

A second penalty of the afternoon is awarded and Worcester Park take full advantage to establish an early lead. Highly contentious decision as N.Williams clearly toes the ball away rather than taking out the man.

28

GOAL

Ransom. Assist: Allen. Ewell restore parity with an excellently worked equaliser. Allen is freed to gallop down the left and his precise cut back is cushioned and then coolly dispatched by Ransom.

35

GOAL

Ewell concede a cheap second as a Park player sneaks undetected to the back post and heads across goal to set up a simple tap-in.

40

GOAL

Ransom. Assist: Chipperton. Ransom curls a free-kick into the bottom corner to draw Ewell level once again.

HALF TIME – Worcester Park ‘A’ 2 AFC Ewell 2

55

CHANCE

Harley’s searing pace is the undoing of the home team’s backline once again but his effort is saved.

67

GOAL

Kingshott. Assist: Ransom. Kingshott attempts a speculative effort from range that whistles into the back of the net and puts Ewell ahead for the first time in the game.

74

NEAR MISS

A sprawling Heptonstall save ensures that Ewell remain narrowly ahead.

84

GOAL

A bitter blow for Ewell as they are punished by another questionable penalty decision. Heptonstall is given no chance with the subsequent spot kick.

87

YELLOW CARD

N.Williams collects the only caution of the game (!) and enters the book for dissent.

FULL TIME – Worcester Park ‘A’ 3 AFC Ewell 3

The verdict:

Ewell put in a battling performance as they shared the spoils with their hosts.  Ewell responded to several set backs in the game as well as the loss of key players and can be extremely proud of their efforts. On another day they might have taken all 3 points home, but for a couple of debatable penalty calls.
