Saturday First Team v Ewell Conquerors

Will Chipperton15 Nov 2014 - 16:00

Match report

Preview:
New boys Ewell Conquerors made their way to Fortress Nescot for what promised to be an entertaining derby fixture, with both sides undoubtedly relishing the prospect of bagging the bragging rights. Whilst the visitors have not yet registered a point, a series of close defeats indicated that they would pose a challenge to the home team.

The Match:

8

CHANCE

Chipperton rises to meet   Bullock’s corner but heads over when he ought to have scored.

11

GOAL

Clancy. Assist: Sear.   Clancy keeps up his red hot form after instinctively lashing home after Sear,   who had forced the defender into a hurried clearance, unconventionally and guided   the ball into the striker’s path, at some cost to his midriff.

23

CHANCE

Patient build up play   releases Clancy to surge forward and Bullock somehow conspires to drag a left   footed shot wide from 6 yards out.

HALF   TIME – AFC Ewell 1 – Ewell Conquerors 0

53

GOAL

Own Goal. Assist: Cooper. As   requested at the break, Ewell get an early second half goal to settle things   down. Good initial play from Holdford down the right leads to a Clancy shot   being deflected into the back of the net, after being found by Cooper.

64

GOAL

Harley. Assist: Bullock. Harley   makes it 2 goals in 2 weeks after nonchalantly lobbing the onrushing goal   keeper having been threaded through by Bullock.

75

GOAL

Clancy. Assist: Holdford.   Holdford caps his impressive cameo performance by squaring for Clancy to   steer home from the penalty spot.

FULL   TIME –AFC Ewell 4 – Ewell Conquerors 0

The verdict:
5 straight wins, consecutive clean sheets and a derby victory. Ewell enjoyed a satisfying Saturday afternoon whilst results elsewhere consequently improved the feeling in the camp. They were by no means at their fluid best on the day, yet they came up trumps when it mattered once again, with their class shining through eventually as the game wore on. Ewell will hope to carry on their rich vein of form into next week, as an interesting County Cup tie awaits.
