Will Chipperton27 Sep 2014 - 13:00

Match report

Preview:
Ewell took to the road for the second week running for the final league game of the month. They hoped to take their free-scoring form with them into what promised to be a challenging afternoon in South Croydon.

The Match:

8

CHANCE

Glorious   opportunity spurned by the visiting side. Neat interplay frees Clancy who,   despite taking his time, conspires to fire the ball straight into the keeper’s   hands.

15

GOAL

Clancy –   Assist: Chipperton. Clancy makes amends for his earlier miss as he races towards   the goal and keeps his composure to send the visitors in front.

20

CHANCE

Chipperton   overlaps down the right flank and his inviting cross grazes Bullock’s head at   the back post. Inches away from making it 2-0.

27

NEAR MISS

A collective   sigh of relief as Ransom is beaten to the ball and the resulting lofted effort   is hacked clear.

35

GOAL

Clancy – Assist: Chipperton. Aggressive pressing from Ewell leads to them retrieving the ball in a dangerous area. Clancy is threaded through and calmly checks back onto his left foot before slotting home.

40

CHANCE

Williams A.   strides forward into unfamiliar territory and lets rip. His well struck shot   has the keeper worried but narrowly misses the target.

HALF TIME – Trinity Reserves 0 – AFC Ewell 2

50

GOAL

A slow start   to the second half proves costly as Trinity claw themselves back into the   encounter with a swift breakaway goal.

58

GOAL

Clancy.   Assist: Chipperton. Ewell restore their two goal lead as Clancy completes his   hat-trick by tucking home on the half volley following a free kick he won.

64

CHANCE

Sear gallops   down the right wing and drives in a cross for Bullock, whose header is repelled   by the keeper at close range.

66

BOOKING

‘Another   comment from Number 20’ sees Williams N. enter the referee’s book for   dissent.

68

GOAL

Stevens.   Assist: Webster. Ewell’s profitable forays down the right continue as Webster’s   pinpoint back post cross is met by a crisp Stevens side footed volley.

74

CHANCE

Another close   shave as Sear drills in a fierce cross / shot which marginally misses the   target.

80

CHANCE

Hodge beats   a couple of men with a mazy dribble and enters the Trinity box. However, he   bends his effort into the keeper’s hands.

FULL TIME – Trinity Reserves 1 – AFC Ewell 4

The verdict:
Ewell put in another polished performance as they signed off from league duties for a fortnight. They carved Trinity open time after time and could have extended the lead further if the quality of the final pass or finish was better. The victory ensures that they will remain perched in the upper echelons of the table as the title chase has now begun in earnest.
