Saturday First Team v Wilf Kroucher

Will Chipperton20 Sep 2014 - 14:00

Match report

Preview:
Off the back of a resounding win last week, Ewell took to the road for their first away clash of the season. Having triumphed 3-1 and 1-0 in their encounters with Wilf Kroucher last year, Ewell had reasons to believe that they could return home with three points in the bag.
The Match:

12

GOAL

Own goal – Assist:   Keogh. Keogh’s glancing header from an in-swinging corner hits an unsuspecting   Kroucher body and ends up in the back of the net. The goal caps an excellent   start for the away side.

15

CHANCE

Another   slick Ewell move frees Keogh, whose right footed effort flashes cross the   face of goal.

20

CHANCE

Hodge cuts   in from the right wing and unleashes a fizzing effort that narrowly misses   the top corner.

36

NEAR MISS

A bizarre refereeing   decision concerning a ‘pass back’ afforded the home team an inviting   opportunity, though Ransom got in the way of the resulting free kick.

HALF TIME - Wilf Kroucher 0 – AFC Ewell 1

62

GOAL

Bullock –   Assist: Keogh. Keogh goes through on goal and, though his effort is saved, he   picks out Bullock who fires high into the goal to provide some breathing   space.

67

NEAR MISS

A   contentious penalty presents Kroucher with a way back into the game. However,   Ransom produces a fine save to claw the ball out of the far corner and save   Ewell’s bacon.

70

GOAL

The reprieve   was short lived as Ewell concede a sloppy goal that welcomes the home side   back into the game.

72

NEAR MISS

Slow to   close the ball on the edge of their box, Ewell breathe a sigh of relief as a   shot whistles narrowly wide of the post.

75

CHANCE

Kingshott   has a glorious opportunity to put the game to bed but he spurns his opening and   blazes the ball over the bar after more patient football.

79

GOAL

Chipperton –   Assist: Williams N. Hopes of a home come back are dashed as Williams N’s long   diagonal evades a number of heads and is slotted in at the back post by   Chipperton.

86

GOAL

Chipperton –   Assist: Clancy. The wily Clancy invites a tackle in the box and earns a   penalty in the process. Chipperton converts to round off an impressive performance   from the away team.

FULL TIME - Wilf Kroucher 1 – AFC Ewell 4

The verdict:
Ewell made a blistering start to the contest and carved out a series of promising openings within the first 10 minutes, just without making their dominance pay. The narrow lead that they did manage to gain put them in a commanding position for the majority of proceedings, although legs tired for the final 15 minutes of the first half and Kroucherthreatened at times with their direct play and physicality. Ransom’s heroics kept Ewell’s nose in front and they picked off a fading opposition for the second week running.
