Will Chipperton29 Nov 2014 - 16:00

Match report

Preview:
A great deal of fanfare surrounded this top of the table clash, with the occasion coinciding with the hosts’ first game at their new ground. Wanderers had been doing an excellent job of taking points off title rivals, and would certainly provide a stern test of Ewell’s credentials.

The Match:

5

GOAL

Ewell make the worst start   imaginable as some static defensive work enables Wanderers to take an early   lead.

14

Chipperton. The scores are   levelled as Chipperton pounces on a loose ball on the edge of the box and   places a half-volley into the bottom corner.

26

NEAR MISS

Ransom comes to the rescue   after pulling off a smart save from close range.

32

GOAL

Chipperton. Assist:   Clancy. Ewell take the lead as Chipperton scores a direct free kick.

37

HALF   TIME – Wanderers 1 – AFC Ewell 2

56

GOAL

Harley. Assist: Stevens. A   slick counter attack provides Ewell with some much needed breathing space. Stevens   plays in Harley who gallops towards goal and expertly lifts the ball over the   advancing goalkeeper.

74

NEAR MISS

Wanderers come close to   reducing the deficit but Langridge is able to clear the danger.

85

GOAL

Keogh. Assist: Langridge. Another   swift break from the visitors results in a fourth impressive goal. After a   bit of juggling, Keogh is able to get the ball under control and riffle a   volley into the far corner of the net.

FULL   TIME – Wanderers 1 – AFC Ewell 4

The verdict:
Ewell did well to play the game rather than the occasion and produced a solid if not spectacular performance to take the points home. Four impressive finishes enabled them to overcome early adversity and chalk up a seventh successive win to keep their title charge on course.
