Will Chipperton20 Dec 2014 - 15:00

Match report

20/12/14 – AFC Ewell 2 – Greenside 0 – Junior Division Two
Preview:
Ewell looked to end 2014 on a high against visiting Greenside, having triumphed in each of the previous 5 clashed between the sides. Their chances were considerably enhanced by the bloated match day squad, which included the returning students, Bunde and Crawford, as well as the taller Williams brother.
The Match:

14

CHANCE

Chipperton fires a cross   into Clancy’s path but the striker is unable to divert the ball into the net.

22

CHANCE

Bullock passes up an inviting   opportunity when he opts to take an early shot instead of advancing towards   the goal, resulting in a tame effort that drifts wide.

37

CHANCE

Substitute Langridge   almost makes an immediate impact. Neat interchange down the left flank sees   the ball squared to the edge of the six yard box, but Langridge’s effort   squirms wide of the near post.

39

GOAL

Clancy. Assist: Sear. Sear’s   persistence on the right wing leads to the ball arriving at Clancy’s feet and   the latter, having shifted the ball on to his underused left foot, fires off   a well-struck effort that is parried into the corner of the net.

HALF   TIME – AFC Ewell 1 vs Greenside 0

67

CHANCE

Not for the first time in   2014, Clancy is chopped down in the penalty area and a spot kick is awarded.   However, the outcome does provide a surprise as his unconvincing effort is   saved.

75

GOAL

Langridge. Having fluffed   his lines in the first half, Langridge more than makes amends by effectively   killing off the contest by executing a pirouetting right footed volley that   sails into the top corner.

FULL   TIME – AFC Ewell 2 vs Greenside 0

The verdict:
Without signing off in style, Ewell delivered another efficient display that cements their position at the top of the tree for Christmas. Having proved a positive omen in their successful 2012-13 campaign, Ewell will be hoping for a repeat in this season’s title chase. Much of this will hinge on their form in the second half of the campaigning, in which they will hope to extend their current winning streak of 9 games.
