Ewell hoped to build on their opening pre season fixture in a game against the newly formed reserve side, knowing that a professional performance was required if they were to avoid an ego-denting result. Both sides clearly had something to play for, as the game began at a high tempo and with plenty of physicality, though this would stand both teams in good stead for their respective league campaigns and the challenges ahead.
As Ewell gradually attempted to halt the frantic pace and implement their usual passing game the chances began to open up, though the opening goal was a scrappy one that Chipperton put away after Keogh and Bullock’s persistence in the penalty area had created the opportunity.
