The game was dubbed as vital to Ewell's title hopes before the game due to a fantastic run of Cheam form which had seen them not drop a league point since they last met Ewell in November and suffered a 3-1 defeat. Ewell were without vice-gaffer Chipperton for the day but were able to welcome back Nick Williams to centre back and move Kingshott into midfield to cover this gap. The game started at a high tempo and goals were definitely on the agenda, and it was not long before the deadlock was broken just after the 10 minute mark. A few early cornerns had worried the Cheam defence and keeper, and Ewell's height and dominance at set pieces was evident for the first time in the game when Nick Williams managed to withstand the challenges of two Cheam defenders and guided a header low into the bottom corner to give Ewell a vital lead. Cheam appeared rattled by this and it wasn't long before Williams (N) doubled the lead with another bullet header from a Bullock corner. This provided Ewell with breathing space and allowed them to play some of their more expansive football as Webster, Keogh, Clancy and Bullock all coming close in the second half, with the latter right to feel frustrated that he didn't record a 1st half hatrick, which was only denied by a keeper in fine form to limit the score to 2-0 at half time. The half time instructions were clear; be professional and remain in control. This message was fully respected by Ewell as they continued to dominate the game early into the second half and made the scoreline 3-0 on 55 minutes as Kingshott bundled home another corner as Ewell exposed Cheam's inabilty to deal with Williams and Kingshott coming forward frome every corner. Despite this aerial dominance, Stevens, Gregory, Clancy and Bullock deserve great credit for how they controlled the midfield and managed to make Cheam chase the game for long periods. Cheam did eventually pull a goal back following a defensive mix up, but a professional performance from Ewell saw them run out 3-1 winners. Many games are still to be played in this ever changing season, but Ewell will hope that they can look back at the end of the season knowing that two 3-1 victories of Cheam Village Warriors were vital as they continue to look for title glory.
