With this being the third encounter versus Destiny Academy within 2 months, Ewell were hoping for 3rd time lucky after losing 4-0 and 2-0 in the two previous, evenly contested encounters. Manager Williams was provided with a boost with the return of the in-form Clancy and after Destiny turned up slightly light on the ground, Ewell decided a fast start was the best approach as they looked for an early goal. However, the demons of the previous week returned as numerous chances were spurned and Destiny were lucky to be 0-0 when their additional player arrived. Ewell eventually got their reward after 30 minutes though, as Sear started and finished a move down the right wing. Ewell were having a lot of success down that side and a quick move between Sear and Clancy left the Destiny defence flat footed as Sear burst into the box and poked home the finish, adding another goal to his tally for the season, easily surpassing any past season.Despite further dominance, Ewell went into half time leading only by 1 and were warned of a good start in the second half. This advice was not taken and Destiny were level within a minute of the restart with a thumping finish into the bottom corner from 20 yards; 1-1. This sparked Ewell into life for the second half and they managed to find their passing again which coincided with a greater amount of chances being created. The impressive Stroud had enterred the fray and was creating trouble down the right sound but it was from his head that he would make the difference, helping on a Chipperton free kick past the onrushing keeper and making up for his sitter the week before to give Ewell a 2-1 lead. Stroud was then presented with an opportunity to finish off the game and make it 3-1, but a cooler head was needed as he blazed over from inside the box. Ewell continued to press further goals but were soon tasked to defensive duties as Gregory, Clancy, Keogh, Sear and Groves were all forced off the pitch at one point or another for injuries which allowed Destiny to take a stranglehold of the game. Destiny piled long balls into the box but these were repelled brilliantly until an uncharacteristic Kingshott mistake gifted the Destiny striker a simple 1-on-1 after a bobble caused an air-shot of a clearance and the chance was taken to make it 2-2 with 5 minutes to go. There was still time for further drama as Ewell broke in numbers, with Groves' fantastic ball across the box deflected away from Stevens and Bullock by the slightest of touches from the Destiny keeper, preventing a tap in from 2 yards, while Clancy managed to get a shot away in a crowded box that fell gratefully into the arms of the keeper, which would turn out to be the last kick of the game. Ewell were left disappointed not to leave with 3 points, but Williams has been quick to remind his players that Destiny are one of the best sides in the league and thus this may be a point gained rather than two dropped come the end of the season. Ewell are top with 1 game to go before the Christmas break, and thus will be pushing hard for victory next weekend to ensure they are sitting top of the tree; an early Christmas present.
