Ewell put in a terrfic performance to make it 3 straight wins and continue their progression under the table. After beating Greenside 3 weeks earlier, Ewell wanted to ensure they did not become overconfident and manager Williams demanded a quick start which came after just 5 minutes when the returning Hitch put in a menacing ball that created confusion between centre back and goalkeeper and cannoned off the CB and into the bottom corner. Ewell continued to dominate but couldn't convert their chances and were punished when Chipperton was caught in possession on the edge of the box. However, Ewell responded and retook the lead with some fantastic link up play with a move finished off by an excellent Clancy finish. Ewell were then gifted a 3rd with Greenside heading in a free kick to their own net, before Ewell scored their best goal of the game just before half time. Ewell pressed Croydon from half way line all the way back to their keeper and when a poor clearance met Crawford Ewell started a fanastic one touch passing move which culminated in a magnificent dummy from Hitch which allowed Clancy to race through and grab his 2nd of the game. With the score 4-1 at the break, Williams demanded the same performance in the second half and he got the response he desired as Ewell grabbed a 5th and 6th straight after the break as Hitch grabbed a deserved two goals. The pace of the game then began to slow as a deflated Greenside was matched by a Ewell side that was content with their position despite the demands for more from their manager. Hitch and Clancy were both denied their hat tricks due to dubious offside flags but Clancy was rewarded with minutes to go as he grabbed his hat trick after yet more great link up play with Hitch. However, a moment of sloppy defensive play allowed Greenside to break and add a late 2nd. On the whole Ewell put in their best performance of the season and the results of recent weeks have begun to rectify the poor start they made to the season. The players have been set a target ahead of two big league games versus Epsom Athletic and Cheam Village Warriors and a cup game versus Destiny Academy and it is now up to the players to respond and keep up their fantastic form.
