Billed as an early season title contenders’ match, the Ewell side were eager to see their opponents in action, due to their strong showing in the league during the previous season. On the day it was apparent to see the source of their success, as they proved to be an adept footballing side, who retained the ball and made Ewell work hard to retrieve it. Conversely, this was only Ewell’s third league outing, and therefore Destiny’s cohesion and experience proved to be telling as they ran out 4-0 victors.
The score-line perhaps didn’t tell the whole story of the game, as Ewell were not second best throughout the entire match, and even managed to exert superior pressure during spells. However, Ewell were unable to convert chances into goals, and having trailed 1-0 at the interval were forced to push on to try and get back into the match. Inevitably spaces did open up and Destiny managed to carve out and convert opportunities on the break. Simply put, the game was a lesson in finishing, and although it was a harsh one Ewell will be looking to bounce back with a positive result in their next match, rather than dwelling on the loss.
