Ewell missed their chance to be the early pace setters of the division after a poor 10 minutes at the start of the game cost them dear. Old Town were quick out of the blocks and punished Ewell for not waking up with 2 early goals, leaving Ewell with a mountain to climb. However, Ewell rallied and dominated possession and had the run of the midfield but lacked the final ball to break down the Old Town defence. Bullock had a shot fire just over, while Golder missed a great opportunity to level by being marginally offside. The score remained 0-2 at half time, but in the second half Ewell rallied again and pressed on. Stroud had a good chance to score at the back post that was smothered well by the keeper that was followed by a few corners that threatened to break the Old Town defence. In the end Ewell pulled their way back into the game by a bit of luck/genius (decide for yourself) by Chris Keogh as his left wing cross flew into the top corner. Ewell pressed on but to no avail, with Bullock coming agonizingly close with a last minute header. While the defeat was a disappointment, Ewell can take many positives from the game and will be much stronger next week with the return of many faces. A league title is decided over 20 games, and thus a lot more can happen in the next 19 and thus Ewell won't leave the opening week too disappointed.
